Charcot-Marie-Tooth: Hello Fall!

(C) 2026, Isaiah Jacobs

I was working out at the gym yesterday listening to my favorite radio station WPER 89.9 as I worked my muscles in my continuous endeavor to look good at the beach next season. Of course, I’ve been trying to look muscular, or good, for nearly twenty-one years, so I won’t go there with that. I continue lifting as I continue hoping.

The announcers on the radio were doing their usual banter of funny discussions when in one break, they began discussing the fall season coming in on Monday night. I was surprised. Where in the world have the warm weather seasons gone? They are coming to an end?! The next thing I know, I will see all the threatening forecasts of super El Nino snowstorms with snow up to my shoulders. That would be very unusual for a Virginia winter, but every forecaster and their brothers are certain we’ll get clobbered.

I’ve realized that I haven’t written much, or at all, during the warmer months. That’s kinda typical for me, I guess. I love being outside so much that it keeps me from doing much at all inside. This season was a little different though. Last year, my lovely wife became ill in May and I was busy with her and her care throughout most of 2025. That’s not to say it was a bad year because we saw God’s Presence and His Love throughout that time. That’s priceless. It does mean that I didn’t spend as much time outside as I would have liked, so I knew I would probably make up for it this season. I did.

I just love being outdoors and fall isn’t going to end that altogether. While it does mean a bit more time indoors, I can still sit outside under the outdoor heater reading and writing or finish up some of my gardening chores. Maybe I will have the opportunity to mow a few more times too. And, I have learned not to put the shorts away until the freezing temperatures, just put away the running shorts and grab the heavier ones instead.

In the meantime, I will be thinking about activities to keep me active indoors for the next few months. Going to the gym may be expanded to three days instead of two. Will I make to hunk status by spring? Who knows?!

I want to wish you a happy fall and hope you will find a way to enjoy the cooler temperatures coming in for another season. For me, that will be my challenge, finding a way to enjoy it all… I know I will. Just gotta look.

Daylight Saving Time Ends

(C) 2022, Isaiah Jacobs

This Sunday, November 5, at 2 a.m. is the designated time we are all supposed to get up from our warm comfy beds and go throughout the house changing our clocks back one hour to 1 a.m. so we will be on time to church and other important activities in our lives going forward. Ain’t happening in my household… once I am comfortable in my bed… I am comfortable in my bed, I’m not moving to change clocks. I’ll start on Saturday morning by changing the non-essential clocks to finally changing the rest at bedtime. Back one hour. I’ll get my extra hour of sleep either way.

For the first time in my life, or as far back as I can remember, I am almost welcoming the cooler weather season, the end of daylight saving time, and the shortened daylight hours. When I told my wife that, she looked at me as if I was ill and was ready to take me to the hospital emergency room. Why?

I love the warm weather. From spring to late fall I love every second of it. I want to be outside and the more I can be outside the happier I am. It’s been this way forever!

Why the change this year? I think it’s because I have been very busy with yard and garden work from late April to about mid-August. Last year, after I moving into a house in the country, I immediately began working on the garden and yard removing mulch and expanding the planting areas. This year, I planted around 200 hundred perennials and annuals. Also, I spread ninety bags of mulch. In the middle of all this awesome work, I got to mow around two acres of my yard. This fall, before the hard frost, I’m busy planting several tree saplings in my backyard which I hope to “re-forest” or return to nature for the local wildlife to enjoy and around fifty spring bulbs. I think I’m ready to enjoy the cooler weather with my hobbies.

Don’t forget- turn the clock back ONE HOUR so you are not late to church and other activities tomorrow.
